ROAD and RAILWAY CONNECTIVITY
Mumbai Port is well connected to the hinterland through major arterial road network of suburbs of Mumbai city. The main road networks connecting the hinterland to Mumbai Port are as follows:
This is a six lane road network connecting cargo generation clusters in the North to Mumbai. It is a part of the golden quadrilateral project. The majority of the cargo from Gujarat and Rajasthan hinterland will utilize this route.
There is connection from NH 48 to new Delhi Mumbai Expressway.
This is a four lane road network connecting cargo generation clusters in UP and MP via Agra. This road will serve the requirement of Central Maharashtra and part of Northern Cluster.
This is a four lane network connecting industrial networks at Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai.
This is a road connecting Cochin to Panvel via Goa. The South bound cargo utilizes this route.
1.1 Internal Road Connectivity
Mumbai Port Authority owns and maintains about 63 km long Roads in MbPA Estate. The Main Roads are about 20 km in length and the secondary roads are about 43 km in length as shown in Figure 1.1

2. Rail Network and Connectivity
MbPA railway system is connected to Indian Railways at Raoli Junction, Wadala for receiving and dispatching the traffic generated from and to hinterland which in turn is connected to Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC).
2.1 Port Railways
The Port of Mumbai owns and operates its own Railway which is connected to broadgauge mainline of Central Railway through its interchange yard at Wadala. The Port Railway runs about 10 kms. of a straight route between Indira Dock and Wadala and has operational network of tracks of about 22 kms.
Port Railway provides rail connectivity to the hinterland of country for Exim cargo as well as domestic cargo and has rail sidings for loading / unloading in the Docks area and also in outlying area. It also has RCD inside Indira Dock. The railway has hired one high powered locomotive and has facilities for handling agro-products like sugar, maize, rice, iron & steel, domestic cement, gypsum, etc.
