A delegation from TRANSNET which is the largest and most important logistics player in South Africa, visited Mumbai Port on 23.2.2012. The Transnet is a public enterprise owned substantially by the South African Government who operates not only the country’s main seaports, but also operates railways and pipelines carrying petroleum and gas products. The delegates included Mr.Khomotso C.Phihlela (Group Executive: Commercial), Mr.Petrus Fusi (General Manager :Private Public Sector Participation) and Ms. Cleopatra Shiceka (General Manager : Transnet Freight Rail Legal). Members of the delegation visited Vessel Traffic System (VTS) centre, Cruise Terminal at Ballard Pier Extension, Dry Dock facilities as well as Port’s railway facilities.  Later on, the delegates had a very fruitful interaction with Shri Rajeev Gupta, Chairman of Mumbai Port Trust and other Senior Port Officers. Shri Rajeev Gupta emphasized that there is tremendous scope to pursue common goals between South Africa and India by sharing and learning from experiences of each other, improvement in productivity and profitability, multi-modal transportation and seamless logistics chain management.  The Chairman, Mumbai Port Trust also dwelt upon various initiatives being taken by the Port of Mumbai and offered its support for capacity building of South African nationals in related fields.
